Information on becoming an Australian citizen |
| If you are interested in becoming an Australian citizen, you need to contact the Department of Immigration and Citizenship, either by calling 131 880 or visiting www.citizenship.gov.au You can also contact us for more information by calling 4645 4661. |
Citizenship process |
| A test is required to be taken by all people under 60 years of age. Once the test has been passed and all requirements checked, the Department will send a letter to the applicant advising approval. The conferee (applicant) then goes on a waiting list. When a ceremony is to be held, a number of names from the waiting list are forwarded to Council. We then hold the ceremony for those conferees. This process usually takes approximately three to four months. |
Applicants travelling overseas |
| If you are applying for citizenship and you are planning on going overseas, you must notify the Department of Immigration and Citizenship at the time of applying so there is no disappointment with any delay in attending a ceremony. |
