How to apply

How to apply - Campbelltown City Council

For your application to be considered, you must address each of the selection criteria outlined in the job description and provide us with your current resume.

Selection criteria

This is the most important part of your application.

If you are applying online you will be promted to address the selection criteria via our E-Recruitment system in the form of an online questionnarie.

If you are unable to apply online you will need to list each selection criteria (listed under "Essential" and "Desirable" in the job description) as a heading. Under each heading, clearly explain how you meet this criteria by providing specific examples and evidence. You may write a few paragraphs on each criterion or write in point form.

Below are examples of addressing criteria:

Excellent written and oral communication skills

A poor response to this criterion might start with: “I believe I possess well developed communication skills.” This example does not provide any supporting evidence and simply states a personal opinion.

A better response might start with: "I have excellent communication skills which are demonstrated by……..” then go on to provide specific examples of your ability to communicate well in a variety of situations. For example, you may wish to demonstrate your skills by describing the kinds of letters, reports or documents you have written, or the kind of interaction you have face to face or on the phone with customers.

Ability to demonstrate initiative

A statement such as: “My role has required initiative in applying ideas gained from training courses” provides very little information to the selection panel on your capacity for initiative.

A more useful alternative would be: “In my previous position as Office Manager at ABC Electrical I initiated a number of improvements to the service provided to customers. Some examples include: introducing a checklist to ensure details for all new clients are correct; introducing Customer Service training for all customer service staff to ensure a consistently high level of service…”

This second option provides relevant, concise examples and demonstrates an understanding of the selection criteria.

Resume/Curriculum Vitae

Your resume should be clear and concise, and should include the following:

  • Your full name, address and telephone contact numbers.

  • A summary of your employment history, starting with your current employment. It should detail the positions you have held, including dates of employment, capacity in which you were employed and a brief outline of the main duties.

  • Your relevant educational qualifications and professional affiliations. Copies of your qualifications should be attached. You will be required to provide originals of your qualifications at interview.

  • Details of relevant training courses attended.

  • The name and contact numbers of at least two work-related referees. Make sure your referees are aware that you are applying for a position with Council so they are prepared if they are contacted.
