Using your library

Using your library - Campbelltown City Council

There are five branch libraries across Campbelltown and you can use your card at each of them. All libraries have a huge range of books, CDs DVDs, Computer rooms and study spaces. We also provide a range of online resources on our website including ebooks, databases and online tutoring programs.

How to join

Membership of the Library is available to everyone living, studying and working in the Campbelltown area free of charge.

To join the Library you need to fill out an application form and show appropriate identification that includes your current address.

If you are under 18 your application form and library card must be signed by a parent or guardian.

Once you have filled out an application form you will be given a library card which you can use immediately. Your card can be used at all branches of the Campbelltown Library Service.

Your library card and PIN

You must have your library card with you to borrow. You are responsible for all items borrowed on your card, so if your card is lost or stolen please notify the Library immediately so that it can be cancelled.

There is a charge of $3.00 to replace a lost card.

You can set up a pin number to access your membership account online and to access some of our online resources.

Borrowing from the library

You may borrow up to 20 items at a time.
Please note: New members may only borrow a maximum of four (4) items at a time for the first three (3) months of membership.

Loan period

You may borrow most items for 21 days. Some items are for seven (7) day loan only. These include:
  • HSC resources
  • Entertainment videos
  • CD ROMs
  • DVDs
  • Comics
  • Magazines

Renewals

You can renew most items either in person or by phone (just have your library card number handy). You can also renew items yourself using the library’s online catalogue, and clicking on member services. You will need to enter your library card number and your PIN. You can obtain your PIN by contacting your local branch.

You can renew an item twice - then it will need to be returned.

Items that have been requested by other customers cannot be renewed.

Requesting a book

Items that are out on loan or only available at other branches can be requested free of charge. You will be sent a letter or email as soon as the item becomes available for you to collect. All requests will be held for two weeks and can be collected from the branch most convenient to you.

If the library does not hold an item we can try to borrow it for you from another library. Items borrowed for you from another library service may have restrictions placed by the lending library. We welcome your suggestions for items to be added to the collection and you can make your suggestions to the staff at your local branch. Items added to the collection must fit with our overall Collection Development Policy, which you can read
here (PDF, 194KB).

Overdue fines

To encourage the prompt return of library items for use by others overdue fines apply to most items.

Fines are:

  • 20 cents per item per day
  • 50 cents per item per day for Inter-Library Loan items

You can avoid overdue fines by:

Returning items to any branch of our library service. All branches have an after hours chute where items can be returned.

You may be able to renew items if you are unable to get to the library. You can renew items online or by telephone.

Ring the library if you have a problem returning the items.

Once an overdue fine has reached $20.00 you will not be able to borrow.

If you have items that are more than six weeks overdue, you will not be able to borrow until the items have been returned.

Lost or damaged items

If an item is lost while it is on loan to you, you will be charged the replacement cost plus a processing fee.

If a book is damaged while it is on loan to you, you will be charged the repair cost if the item can be repaired, or the full cost (plus a processing fee) if the item is damaged beyond repair.

If audio-visual material is damaged you will be charged only if damage is due to obvious negligence.

If you would like more information about library membership or borrowing library staff are happy to help you.
