What is a skin penetration business?

A skin penetration business is a business where procedures are applied to the body which penetrates the skin and have the potential to introduce micro-organisms into the body.

Some diseases can be transmitted as a result of unhygienic practices, procedures or person to person contact.

There are a diverse range of skin penetration premises operating in the Campbelltown Local Government Area. These businesses are required to be registered with us and are subject to regular inspections.

Skin penetration is an activity that includes any of the following procedures:

  • dry needling
  • beauty treatments (ie waxing, electrolysis)
  • body, nose and ear piercing
  • colonic lavage
  • cosmetic enhancement
  • tattooing
  • nail artistry and pedicures
  • microdermabrasion

Premises not inspected by Council include:

  • registered medical practioners
  • dentistry's
  • chiropractors
  • osteopaths
  • dental technicians
  • nurses
  • optical dispensers, optometrists
  • pharmacies
  • podiatrists
  • psychologists
