Campbelltown City Council is facilitating a bid to establish an A-League team in South West Sydney.
In the near future, Football Federation Australia (FFA) is expected to announce plans to expand the A-League competition, and it is envisaged that Expressions of Interest will be sought for inclusion in the expanded competition.
What's the South West Sydney Football Bid?
Campbelltown City Council is embracing this opportunity and is currently facilitating preliminary feasibility into the viability of an A-League team to represent South West Sydney in the expanded competition. The establishment of an A-League team in South West Sydney would answer the calls from the community for a full-time professional sporting club to be based in the growing South West Sydney region.
In recent years, Council has proactively embarked on a number of key initiatives to enhance the experience of living in the region. It is believed that this initiative would not only improve the liveability of the region, but would have significant economic, social and outreaching benefits. With the substantial population growth that the region will experience in the next 20 years, and the accessibility and location of Campbelltown Sports Stadium, South West Sydney is ideally placed to be a part of the expanded league.
This bid is not just focused on the A-League team, but involves all aspects that are paramount to be a successful club. This includes a framework for football development from grassroots to W-League and A-League, and a community focus which will be an essential ingredient for a successful bid.
The South West Sydney Football Bid will ensure that the community actively supports the establishment of the team, and the team's involvement in the community will be paramount to its success. We want to ensure that the people of the South West Sydney region are just as passionate about the team as we are about the region, as this will be paramount to success on and off the field.
As part of the bid process, we're looking at opportunities to provide a range of community-focused programs to support children and young people, people with disability, our Indigenous and emerging Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Communities.
