The 2017 competition is now officially open

In a world seemingly overloaded by a daily avalanche of images, through Instagram, Facebook and television, a striking image can still cut through the clutter of it all, revealing to us something in our worlds that we have been missing.

The Macarthur councils will once again be hosting the highly anticipated Macarthur Nature Photography Competition (MNPC) and are encouraging you to enter your most striking, engaging and enticing images of local native flora, wildlife and natural scenery taken from within the Macarthur area, showcasing your artistic vision and impression of the natural environment to the wider community.

How to enter

Entry is easy! You can enter online or print and mount your own photos and bring them into your local Council. To enter a hard copy image and to familiarise yourself with all of the rules and conditions, download the entry form.

Walks and talks

Each year we provide a number of photography related activities, which give people an opportunity to get outdoors and take some snaps of the beautiful environment that we have in the Macarthur region and help enter them into the competition.

This year we will be offering a number of walks and talks during the competition timeframe and beyond that provide a perfect opportunity to get out into nature and take some great shots for this year's competition and future years as a part of our Spring into nature(7MB, PDF) series.

Get your school involved!

This competition provides a great avenue for schools to engage their students in visual arts/digital media, science and geography. In our primary school and high school teacher resource kits we have demonstrated what learning outcomes this competition can achieve.

There are also great prizes for schools. If one of your students enters their photo into the competition, acknowledging their school on the entry form, it automatically goes into the running to win best overall primary school or high school photo, judged by our competition judges.
