Project Information
The Queen Street Run is a fun run through an obstacle course of Queen Street’s arcades, alleyways, fire escapes and shopfronts. The race, which is led by artist Matthew Prest, will be run by a number of teams each representing a local Queen St business.
Similar to orienteering, each team is given a map of the area with a number of checkpoints that have to be found in order to complete the race.
The race aims to create a simple, fun and accessible physical event that subverts the conventional thoroughfares and public uses of the commercial architecture that make up Queen Street.
Interested participants can register here for free. The race will be approximately 3 km in length and participants should feel comfortable jogging that distance. Children under 12 must run with an adult.
The Queen Street Run is part of Swarm: Collective Actions on Queen, a live art event that draws artists and audiences into the architectural fabric of Queen Street. Situating five artistic projects in the historic town centre of Campbelltown, Swarm teases out questions about individual agency within public spaces, the impact of collective actions, and the role of the artist within a (re)vision of a city’s development.
Risk Warning:
Participating in The Queen Street Run has certain risks associated with it, especially if the participant is trying to navigate unfamiliar spaces and buildings, or if the weather conditions are particularly adverse. Along with the usual risks of orienteering, such as the possibility of missing ones footing, stumbling, or suffering from muscular or other damage to legs and feet, participants may suffer from exertion or from loss of direction.
