25th Biennale of Sydney: Rememory
Next date: Saturday, 14 March 2026 | 12:00 AM
to Sunday, 14 June 2026 | 11:59 PM
Campbelltown Arts Centre is a presenting partner of the 25th Biennale of Sydney: Rememory, led by 25th edition Artistic Director Hoor Al Qasimi.
A means of revisiting, reconstructing, and reclaiming histories that have been erased or repressed, Rememory signifies the intersection of memory and history, where recollection becomes an act of reassembling fragments of the past—whether personal, familial, or collective. The 25th edition of the Biennale connects the delicate space between remembering and forgetting. By engaging with Rememory, artists will highlight marginalised narratives, share untold stories, and inspire audiences to rethink how memory shapes identity, belonging, and the creation and celebration of new communities and connections.
The Biennale of Sydney is a leading international art event that presents the work of artists from Australia and around the world.
Artists and projects featured in Rememory at Campbelltown Arts Centre will include:
- A multi-channel video work by artists Behrouz Boochani, Hoda Afshar and Vernon Ah Kee as part of their newly commissioned Code Black/Riot project. This work centres the voices and experiences of Indigenous youth living in detention and confronts the persistence of colonial policies through the inhumane logic of Australia’s incarceration system.
- An immersive multimedia installation by Lebanese film makers and artists Joana Hadjithomas & Khalil Joreige exploring patterns of human migration. The installation is based on the story of a group of friends who dream of changing their lives and decide to leave their neighbourhood for Australia, ultimately reaching Christmas Island. Their migration crosses the path of the annual mass red crab migration, which sees millions of large crabs emerge from the forest and make their way to the ocean to breed.
More artists and projects to be announced soon.
Campbelltown Arts Centre is a presenting partner of the 25th Biennale of Sydney alongside Art Gallery of New South Wales, Chau Chak Wing Museum at the University of Sydney, Penrith Regional Gallery, and White Bay Power Station.
