Living Stories - Online Creative Writing Workshop for Adults

During April, join one of our free creative writing workshops, learn the skills you need to craft a short story and poem from an award winning local author. 

Workshops are held as a part of the 2025 Living Stories Western Sydney Writing Prize.

About the Author

J. Marahuyo is a neurodivergent Filipino-Australian award winning poet residing on Dharug country. She was shortlisted for the Newcastle Poetry Prize 2024, won the Writing NSW- Varuna Fellowship 2024 and won the Living Stories Prize 2024. She explores themes of identity, mental health and the power of vulnerability and her debut collection will be released early 2025 by WestWords Books. Her words are celebrated and published nationally and internationally and can be found in Cordite, FemAsia and Gems Zine as well as numerous print and digital anthologies such as Living Stories, Short Stories Unlimited Four Seasons and Poetica Christi Press’s Transformation.  When she’s not writing you can find her pspsp-ing random cats, eating cookies or getting on the wrong train. Living Stories Western Sydney Writing Prize

In its 5th year, Living Stories is open to residents of Western Sydney and Wingecarribee Shire, offering an opportunity at publication and cash prizes from a pool of over $12,000.

This year, participants are asked to respond to the theme: Only I can say. Write your entry at our workshops. Then choose to submit for your chance at a cash prize and publication!  

Entries can be either a short story/narrative non-fiction (up to 500 words) or a poem (up to 25 lines) and are open to residents of the 14 partnering LGAs across four age groups: 10 - 12 years; 13 - 15 years; 16 - 18 years; and adults (18+).

Living Stories is presented by WestWords, WestLit Libraries, Create NSW, the James N. Kirby Foundation, Arab Bank Australia, and Australian Catholic University.

This event is online only. A Zoom link will be emailed to registered participants closer to the day.
