Webinar: Women in agribusiness

How to start a small business seminar

One of the ways in which farmers can build resilience into their traditional growing and producing operation is by diversifying into agritourism. A new agritourism planning amendment in NSW makes this transition easier for NSW farmers.

Women have led a lot of innovation in areas such as regenerative farming and developing unique agritourism experiences.

In this webinar you will learn how

  • To understand the popular and emerging revenue streams in agribusiness and explore online sales
  • To understand the new opportunity in NSW with the Agritourism planning amendment
  • Regenerative farming and/or natural farming has boosted sustainability.

You will leave this webinar with the ability to

  • Create resilience for your agribusiness by diversifying into agritourism
  • Mitigate the cash flow risk of traditional farming by activating year round revenue streams such as education tourism, agritourism, and online sales
  • Maximise revenue by understanding how to best promote your produce and experiences.

Meet your presenter - Katrina Sparke

Katrina Sparke manages Redleaf Farm at Fitzroy Falls in NSW, raising Angus cattle, Border Leicester-Merino ewes, Wessex Saddleback sows and mixed breed chooks. The family farms 110 hectares at Fitzroy Falls, in the NSW Southern Highlands. They raise about 30 Border Leicester-Merino ewes, 20 Angus cattle, 20 Wessex Saddleback sows and 100 mixed breed chooks for eggs. Farm-stay accommodation is also part of the Redleaf Farm business.

Katrina was a graphic designer before she moved her family to the rural property a decade ago, and is the daughter of nutritionist Rosemary Stanton. Katrina wanted to make sure she instilled the same passion for healthy food in her own children, so she became a farmer. The family uses sustainable grazing practices and have worked to improve the soil over the past 10 years, applying lime to reduce acidity. They follow organic principles.

“People say to me, ‘You are so lucky, you have such a beautiful life’,” Katrina says. “But it’s not just luck, it’s a lot of hard work and a brave decision to take off my city suit".
