Local comic enthusiasts are encouraged to don their best costumes and join in a celebration of pop culture at Comic Book Day 2024 on Saturday 4 May.

From 10am to 3pm, visitors can join a variety of free activities and creative workshops inspired by pop culture franchises at HJ Daley Library, including Star Wars Day, which coincides with this year’s celebration.

The popular Cosplay Competition will return this year, giving participants a chance to show off their best costumes, with a panel of guest judges including professional cosplayers and Australian actor Matt Doran.

“Comic Book Day is a great chance for locals of all ages to come together and celebrate a shared passion for the comics and franchises that mean the most to them,” Mayor George Greiss said.

“Our Libraries continue to offer inclusive and welcoming programs for all residents and this year’s Comic Book Day is shaping up to be the biggest yet, so I encourage everyone to get involved,” Dr Greiss said.

Highlights include:

  • Meet and greet with actor Matt Doran (Star Wars, The Matrix and Home and Away)
  • Artist Alley with 18 talented artists
  • Drawing Workshops with comic artists Matthew Lin and Marcelo Baez
  • Musical performances from geek pop singer Meri Amber
  • Superhero Bingo and Star Wars Trivia
  • K-Pop dance classes
  • Lightsaber classes and crafts

For visitors interested in keeping Comic Book Day between the pages, both free and discounted comic books will be available on the day, while stocks last.

A sausage sizzle, coffee van, and dessert food trucks will also offer refreshments throughout the event.
