About Menangle Beach Bushcare

We call this most recent addition as a Bushcare site, ‘Menangle Beach’, which is located at Nepean River Reserve. This reserve in Menangle Park has been undergoing amenity upgrades with more exciting inclusions to come.

The Nepean River catchment has different plant life compared to the Georges River. The vegetation that you would expect to find in this area has adapted to frequent flooding and alluvial soil including:

• Eucalyptus elata - River Peppermint (dominates our site)
• Casuarina cunninghamiana - River Oak, River Sheoak (as opposed to Casuarina glauca along the Georges River).
• Eucalyptus benthamii - Camden White Gum
• Eucalyptus viminalis - Ribbon Gum/Manna Gum

The river and surrounding banks have been impacted by coal seam gas and sand mining causing substantial erosion issues. We have utilised revegetation as a stabilisation strategy, which has stimulated natural regeneration, including the threatened Pomaderris brunnea.

Our Bushcare work here mainly focuses on weed management, erosion control, litter removal and wildlife observations which help to facilitate this natural process of regeneration and protects native species from environmental weeds.

We meet on the second Saturday of each month. No experience is necessary to attend this event as we will provide you with all the training you need.

It is important to wear a long sleeve shirt, long pants, enclosed sturdy shoes and a hat. Also bring along a water bottle for you to stay hydrated.
