Glenfield metro proposal a boost for Campbelltown and Liverpool

Campbelltown Mayor George Greiss and Liverpool Mayor Ned Mannoun have welcomed NSW Premier Dominic Perrottet’s announcement of a business case for a new Sydney Metro line that would link Glenfield to Bankstown.

The proposed new line would link Glenfield to Bankstown via Liverpool, with 20km of track laid and would build on the current planned link between Glenfield and the Western Sydney Airport via Leppington.

“As south west Sydney continues to grow, it’s crucially important that this is accompanied by public transport infrastructure that will enable residents to travel freely across the region in order to access important services and jobs,” Campbelltown Mayor George Greiss said.

“We are a strategic hub that services a large number of residents and it is critical to be connected to the wider Western Sydney region,” Cr Greiss said.

“I’d like to thank the NSW Government for this commitment and look forward to seeing further detail on the proposed stations and rail line once the business case is complete,” he said.

Liverpool City Mayor Ned Mannoun said that he was also excited by the news.

“I’ve lobbied the state government for an extension of the metro to Liverpool for many years and it’s exciting to see a Premier take the concerns of South West commuters seriously.  The South West has been ignored for decades and its only right that it should now be placed first when it comes to new public transport construction.

“My congratulations to the Premier for recognising the needs of our very deserving and long-suffering commuters,” said Mayor Mannoun.
