Children can now submit their creative artwork or short story in the annual Threatened Species Art and Writing Competition.

“The Macarthur region is home to a wide variety of native plants and animals and this competition is a great opportunity to educate end encourage children to take an interest in our diverse flora and fauna,” Mayor George Greiss said.

“There are many talented kids across the Macarthur region with artistic and writing talent and I look forward to seeing the great entries in this year’s competition,” Cr Greiss said.

The competition celebrates National Threatened Species Day on Monday 7 September and is open to children aged five to 12 from the Macarthur region, including the Campbelltown, Camden and Wollondilly areas.

Artworks and creative writing pieces must feature a local endangered plant or animal.

Teachers and parents can also access a resource kit to help them deliver the competition in classrooms.

Entries close on Friday 26 August 2022.
