Event rules and conditions

These terms and conditions apply to the event. By entering the Fishers Ghost race and by signing the entry form or in the case of online acceptance, by electronically checking the box, each participant (or if the participant is under 18, the parent/guardian of the participant), acknowledges acceptance of the rules and conditions set out below and agrees to abide by the rules and conditions.

1. Fisher’s Ghost race  is a competitive running and walking competition.
2. The race takes place in the combined grounds of the Western Sydney University and TAFE NSW campuses(PDF, 3MB) at Campbelltown - Off Goldsmith and David Pilgrim Avenue, Campbelltown.
3. 5km - minimum age for entrants is 7 years old
4. 10km (participants complete the race course twice) – minimum age for entrants is 12 years old on race day.
5. A separate signed entry or completed online entry is required for each entrant.
6. Entry fees are non-refundable unless agreed upon by Campbelltown City Council.
7. Entries are non-transferable once assigned and race bibs cannot be given to another person.
8. Where an entrant is under 18 years of age, their parent or legal guardian must consent to the entrant’s participation and must acknowledge and accept these rules and conditions on the entrant’s behalf. Parents and legal guardians are responsible for all entrants under 18 years of age.
9. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult who has entered the race for the entire event.
10. By entering or participating in the race, each entrant acknowledges that the race involves physical activity and inherent risks, including the risk of personal injury, illness, death, property loss or damage arising from participation in the race, weather conditions, course conditions, the actions of other participants or spectators, and other hazards associated with a public running and walking event. Each entrant participates voluntarily and at their own risk.
11. Each entrant is responsible for ensuring they are medically and physically fit to participate in the race.  Entrants must not participate in the race if they are unwell, injured, experiencing symptoms of illness, or have been advised by a medical practitioner not to participate.
12. By entering or participating in the race, each entrant authorises (and gives consent to) Council, race officials, event staff, volunteers, first aid personnel and emergency services personnel to arrange or provide any medical assistance, first aid, ambulance transport or emergency treatment that may reasonably be required if the entrant is injured, becomes ill or is otherwise affected during or in connection with the race. The entrant acknowledges that any such treatment may be provided in circumstances where it is not practicable to obtain the entrant’s further consent. The entrant is responsible for any medical, ambulance or other expenses incurred as a result of such treatment, except to the extent caused by Council’s negligence, breach of law or other liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.
13. Photographs and video footage may be taken during the race and associated event activities. By entering or participating in the race, each entrant consents to Council photographing, filming, recording and otherwise capturing their image, likeness and participation, and authorises Council to use, reproduce, publish and communicate that material for Council promotional, marketing, reporting and community information purposes, including in social media posts and on Council’s website, without further notice, consent or payment.
14. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Campbelltown City Council is not liable for any injury, loss, damage, cost or expense suffered or incurred by an entrant arising from or in connection with the entrant’s participation in the race, except to the extent caused by Council’s negligence, breach of law or other liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.
15. Entrants must comply with these rules and conditions and all reasonable directions given by Council, race officials, marshals, emergency services personnel and event staff.
16. Each entrant indemnifies Council against any loss, damage, cost or expense suffered or incurred by Council arising from the entrant’s breach of these rules and conditions, negligent act or omission, wilful misconduct, or unlawful conduct, except to the extent caused or contributed to by Council’s negligence, breach of law or other liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.
17. Council may refuse participation or deny an entry, remove an entrant from the race, or disqualify an entrant where Council reasonably considers it necessary for safety, operational or compliance reasons.
18. Timing bibs will be utilised for this race.
19. Timing bibs must be worn during the race and must be securely attached to the front of T-shirts or singlets (the top half of running attire), because the timing bib is used to record race times. Any entrant that is not wearing a timing bib will have their time recorded. A $45 charge applies for replacement bibs on race day if an entrant has lost or forgotten their bib.
20. Entrants must always behave safely and respectfully, and must not engage in conduct that may endanger or interfere with other entrants, spectators, staff, volunteers or members of the public. Council may remove or disqualify any entrant who breaches this requirement.
21. All team members must compete over the same distance and there must be at least four people per team.
22. Strollers/Pram walkers are welcome to participate and must start from the designated Stroller Start Area, which is well behind the start line, to ensure a safe, injury-free start for all participants.
23. Only individual late entries can be accepted on race day with the cut-off for such entries being 7:45am. Payment for late entries received on race day is by EFTPOS only, cash will not be accepted No teams or WSU/TAFE NSW student entries will be accepted on race day.
24. Entry fees are not refundable with the exception that a refund may be payable if the race is cancelled by Campbelltown City Council.
25. The start time for each race is 8:00am, and participants must complete the course by 10:00am.
26. Entrants that do not complete the race by 10am will be listed as 'Did Not Finish' and no time will be recorded.
27. Outright winners and placegetters of the entire race (who placed first, second or third) are not eligible for an age category trophy in their age grouping.
28. There's no child minding available on race day.  All spectating children must be accompanied and supervised by an adult.
29. Pets, rollerblades, skates, scooters, skateboards and bikes are not permitted within the race.
30. First aid stations are located at the Start/Finish area and on the TAFE NSW Campbelltown campus.
31. On course and finish line water stations are available during the race.
32. Portable toilets are located along the course and in the concourse area near registration.
33. All participants must remain within the defined course. Any departure from the defined course during the race will lead to disqualification.
34. All decisions by the Race Director are final.
35. All entrants who complete their race will be eligible for an online finisher’s certificate.
36. Lost property can be taken to the Late Registration area. At the end of the race lost items will be taken to the Event Coordinator and logged at Campbelltown City Council where it will be kept in accordance with these rules and conditions.
37. All lost property will be kept for a minimum of two weeks from race day at Campbelltown City Council before it is donated to charity.
38. “Force Majeure” includes acts of God or the elements (including without limitation, wind, rough water, rain, hail, hurricane, tornado, earthquake), acts of terrorism, communicable disease, public health risks (including pandemic), fire, smoke, threatened or actual strike, labour difficulty, work stoppage, insurrection, war, public disaster, flood, government order, change of law, unavoidable casualty, race course conditions, or any other cause beyond the control of the Council. Council may, for safety reasons, or at the direction of police or local authorities, or due to a Force Majeure event:

 If the Race is delayed, modified or postponed for any safety reasons, or at the direction of police or local authorities, or due to a Force Majeure event, but the Race still takes place, there will be no refund of the Council’s entry fee (or any portion of) or any other costs incurred in connection with the Race.

If the Race is cancelled in its entirety (including where due to a Force Majeure event) by the Council, all paid entrants will be contacted regarding their options, which will include the option to receive a refund of the Council’s entry fee.

Team competition rules

Teams can enter to run either the 5km or 10km race.

1. A team must consist of a minimum of four members and must register online.
2. Teams can comprise of both males and females.
3. Only school students from the same school are eligible to be a member of a school team.
4. Teachers and parents cannot be members of a school team; however, they may enter as part of an Open Team.
5. No team entries will be accepted and team entries cannot be changed on race day. All teams must be entered prior to race day.
6. The combined times of the first four members of the team to cross the finish line will be used to determine the fastest team result for each team category.
7. Entrants can only be a member of one team and cannot enter the race as an individual if they have entered as part of a team.
8. The Largest Team award will be presented to the team with the most number of members who complete the course within 90 minutes.
9. It is the Team Coordinator's responsibility to ensure all team members are registered in the correct team category prior to race day.
10. No team changes are permitted on race day.
