From Grey to Green
The NSW Government's Five Million Trees for Greater Sydney (5MT) was created to expand the urban tree canopy across the 33 local government areas within Greater Sydney. It is about planting more trees in our streets, parks, private yards, neighbourhoods and schools under the goal of increasing Sydney’s urban tree canopy.
“The target for Greater Sydney is to achieve 40% urban tree canopy cover across the region by 2030. From Grey to Green aims to address this”.
Rosemeadow has been identified as a pilot project for the 5MT program, owing to its low existing canopy cover, substantial open space network, and Campbelltown City Council’s demonstrated commitment to achieving a green, sustainable city.
The suburb of Rosemeadow currently has a canopy cover of less than 10%. This tree planting project will significantly increase canopy within the precinct. Campbelltown City Council has successfully secured $200,000 from the 5 Million Tree for Greater Sydney Grant Program to add to Council’s existing budget.
Council has been working with the Office of Open Space and Parklands and their consultants in the development of master plan for tree planting designs for Copperfield Drive, Rosemeadow. These designs have included tree planting along part of Copperfield Drive, surrounding Heydon Park and to the open space drainage swale fronting Rosemeadow Public School.
Consultation has already commenced with Rosemeadow Public School to undertake tree planting to the frontage of their school and surrounding Heydon Park which is adjacent to the school.
Campbelltown City Council endorses the Five Million Trees for Greater Sydney Program and the benefits that it will have creating healthier neighbourhoods and cooler suburbs.
