About: Ted is a delightful senior gentleman who exudes comfort, confidence, and friendliness. Whether you're a first-time dog owner or experienced canine enthusiast, Ted will win your heart with his agreeable and gentle nature.
Being an older fellow, Ted is still learning his name and can be a bit stubborn at times.
Though Ted is mostly quiet and rarely barks, he may join in if other dogs are barking, driven by a touch of FOMO (Fear of Missing Out).
Ideal Home: Ted's ideal home includes free access to both indoor and outdoor spaces, making him suitable for a house or a farm/acreage with a medium to large yard with high secure fencing.
He is best suited to a calm & quiet home as he enjoys being a lazy boy, lounging on a cozy bed, and relishing the comforts of home life.
Family: This loveable old man is open to meeting kids making him a great match for families seeking a furry friend. However, due to his size and lack of awareness, Ted is best to be housed with kids who are aged 5 years & up.
Ted is well-suited for active and outdoorsy individuals or families who appreciate the joy of spending time in nature.
He's the ideal partner for both part-time and full-time workers, adapting well to various lifestyles.
Furry Friends: Ted must be the only dog in the home. Reason for this is that he shows high reactivity towards other dogs, indicating that he does not want to meet or make friends with other dogs. Ands that’s ok – this old boy will have all that he needs in terms of companionship with his new owner/family.
While his compatibility with cats is uncertain, Ted's new owner can use discretion to determine if he can coexist with feline friends.
Training & Development: A bit of post-adoption training at home, especially in leash manners, would be beneficial to help Ted become the best version of himself. He loves a walk & may pull out of excitement – training will assist him with that.
He also loves treats, & he takes them gently from your hand so ongoing training shouldn’t be too much of an issue. He knows how to sit, showcasing his willingness to learn.
We always recommend post-adoption training whether it be at home or with a professional. Training doesn’t have to be a chore – it can be a fun experience for you both, it doesn’t have to take long & is a great way for you to bond with your new pal.
Play: Despite being an older gentleman, he maintains medium energy levels and would thrive with daily exercise, such as leisurely walks lasting 30-60 minutes.
While he isn't particularly interested in toys, Ted prefers human interaction and attention, making him the ultimate dog for quality bonding time.
Post-Adoption Life: With all animals it’s important to understand that going into a new environment with new people may not be as seamless as we want it to be. It’s important to know that these animals have unknown histories - most are left in the shelter by their owners. The information we have is from observing the animal’s behaviours & reactions to certain stimuli whilst in our care. Adopted animals can take up to 3 months to properly decompress from post-shelter life & a lot of behaviours & quirks may surface during this time. All that we ask is that their new owners have an open mind & are patient.
