Meet Wedge,
This handsome heart-stealer is Wedge — a unique blend of gentle soul and playful spirit, looking for a special someone to call his own.
Wedge is the kind of dog who marches to the beat of his own drum. He's independent, a little sensitive, and perfectly content doing his own thing… until it’s time for a walk, a game, or a cuddle — then he lights up like a firework!
He's friendly and affectionate, always happy to greet you with a wagging tail, but he also knows how to chill and enjoy the quiet moments. Wedge can be a little aloof at times, but that just adds to his charm.
Wedge would thrive in a calm and understanding home, preferably with experienced dog owners who can appreciate his quirks and give him the space he needs to feel safe and secure. That said, he’s wonderfully adaptable and would suit a variety of households — as long as he gets his daily dose of adventure and affection.
Ideal Home: Wedge is suitable to live in a townhouse, standalone home or on a farm/acerage, with a medium to large yard & high, secure fencing.
Family: Wedge is open to meet kids of any age. He is fine to live with people who work part-time hours, too.
Wedge is fine to spend time in the yard on his own but he feels most content when inside with his new family. To access into the home more often for Wedge is ideal.
Furry Friends: Wedge is open to meet other dogs. During his dog assessment Wedge met two different dogs and he was very happy to interact & play. When the other dog got a little defensive, Wedge was understanding and respected the other dogs boundaries. He is very approachable & not too excited for other dogs.
As we cannot test in the environment, we are not sure how Wedge would go living with cats/pocket pets. This would be up to the discretion of his new owners.
Training & Development: Wedge would benefit from post-adoption training such as training at home to cover basic commands/obedience. Wedge is usually very mild mannered but he may jump on occasion - although this is very rare.
Wedge is still learning his name but he knows commands such as: sit. He is food motivated too and is known to be gentle when taking treats from you - so having treats on you during training to mark good behaviour would be an excellent idea.
We always recommend post-adoption training whether it be at home or with a professional. Training doesn’t have to be a chore – it can be a fun experience for you both, it doesn’t have to take long & is a great way for you to bond with your new pal.
Play: Wedge has low to mid-range energy needs & would benefit from exercise or walks from 20-60mins a day to keep him content. Wedge doesn't show much interest in toys - he prefers cuddles, spending time with his handlers or personal play.
Wedge walks well on a lead with minimal pulling. He is fine to be walked on either a collar or harness.
Staff Comments: Wedge is a sweet, kind and gentle boy who thrives on your love & attention. He is not demanding, he's quiet & he enjoys cuddles and a comfy bed. His energy isn't too overwhelming either making him a real easy going dog.

Post Adoption Life: With all animals it’s important to understand that going into a new environment with new people may not be as seamless as we want it to be. It’s important to know that these animals have unknown histories - most are left in the shelter by their owners. The information we have is from observing the animal’s behaviours & reactions to certain stimuli whilst in our care. Adopted animals can take up to 3 months to properly decompress from post-shelter life & a lot of behaviours & quirks may surface during this time. All that we ask is that their new owners have an open mind & are patient.
