The Greater Cities Commission's role is to coordinate and align the planning that will shape the future of Greater Sydney.

The commission has a collaborative "one government" approach to undertake strategic planning designing Sydney's long-term future.

The commission is divided into five districts - Central City , Eastern City, North, South and the Western City district (which includes Campbelltown).

Each district has a District Plan which outlines at a local level opportunities, priorities and actions, and informs the overall Greater Sydney Plan.

The Commission's District Plans were finalised in March 2018 after extensive stakeholder and community consultation, including two public exhibition periods.
