Koala community education and awareness

Mac’s Macarthur Koala Column was a long running newspaper feature which published weekly stories about Campbelltown’s koalas in the Macarthur Advertiser.

The newspaper column was instrumental in engaging the local community to report koala sightings which led to the discovery of koalas throughout the Georges River corridor, not just isolated to the suburb of Wedderburn.

Mac’s column provided avenues to report injured koalas to wildlife care organisations, key contacts to report sightings as well as phone number that let listeners hear a koala bellowing to assist with identifying their presence without confirmed visual sightings.
