Play Space Strategy (The State of Play)

The purpose of the Campbelltown City Council The State of Play Strategy (2016 - 2036) is to provide a comprehensive and prioritised plan for the future development and management of play ground facilities across Campbelltown City to 2036.

The strategy includes an audit of current facilities, sets out what the needs of the community will be in five, 10 and 20 years, and what facilities will be required to meet those needs.

It also provides a planning framework; including a hierarchy of facilities allocated to each existing playground, as well as a list of future recommended additional playgrounds to enable a broad range of opportunities locally.

How was the Strategy developed?

Council engaged consultants Oneighty Sport and Leisure Solutions to develop the strategy on its behalf. In developing the strategy, the consultants met with a range of stakeholders, including:

  • child care centre providers to better understand how these groups are using play grounds
  • community groups
  • residents, who were consulted through an online survey as well as community workshops and meetings.

The purpose of this consultation was to seek feedback on the current facilities and gather ideas about what should be included in play for the future.

Strategy Implementation

The Strategy will now be used as the primary planning document for the provision of play infrastructure to the Campbelltown community. Recommendations in regards to infrastructure upgrades and provision will be addressed over the coming years with a view to provide the Campbelltown community with contemporary and fit for purpose play facilities.
