Citizenship Ceremonies

Campbelltown City Council hold a number of Australian Citizenship Ceremonies throughout the year on request from the Department of Home Affairs.

Applying for citizenship

Applications for Australian Citizenship are assessed by the Department of Home Affairs and if approved, the final step in becoming an Australian Citizen is to make a Pledge of Commitment at a citizenship ceremony in the presence of the Mayor.

Campbelltown City Council holds these ceremonies on behalf of the Australian Government.

Request a Citizenship Application Pack

You can get an application to become an Australian citizen online from the Department Of Home Affairs or by phoning 131 881. The application pack includes eligibility criteria and supporting information.

Campbelltown City Citizenship Ceremonies

The Mayor or General Manager of Campbelltown lead our citizenship ceremonies.

At the ceremony, successful applicants make a pledge of commitment as a citizen of the Commonwealth of Australia. All new citizens are then presented with a Certificate of Australian Citizenship, which formally represents your Australian citizenship.

Councillors and Members of Parliament who represent Campbelltown at a state and federal level are also invited to attend citizenship ceremonies.

Citizenship ceremonies are usually held every 4-6 weeks

However it can take between 5-6 months after receiving your Australian Citizenship approval before you are invited to attend a Citizenship Ceremony.

  • The wait time is due to the large volume of applications being processed by the Department of Home Affairs
  • Council does not have access to the Department of Home Affairs waiting list
  • It is only after a ceremony is complete that the Department will send the list of names for the next ceremony.

Your invitation

We will send an invitation to you via email about 4 weeks before the event.

Check your invitation to confirm the details of your ceremony:

  • The ceremony location
  • Date and time
  • What to bring with you on the day
  • What types of photo identification you will need to bring on the day.

The ceremony is an important event where you make a commitment to Australia. You and your guests should be dressed in formal or smart casual clothing and groomed to reflect its significance.
