Fact sheets for Students of U-Turn the Wheel (UTTW)

The U-Turn The Wheel to Stay Alive program is offered to Year 11 students attending both Government and Private High Schools in the Campbelltown Local Government Area.

The program is delivered to the High Schools over 1 day. There is a total of 6 sessions, which are presented on a special timetable separate to the rest of the school.

Sharing the Road

This session is presented by staff from Cawdor Haulage. Students obtain hands on experience by sitting in the driver's seat of a parked semi trailer and understanding the blind spots and turning space and stopping distances required by truck drivers. Driver Training

You can contact Russell Oats from Barnes Driving School on 02 4647 6000 to answer any questions you may have. At the school session Russell would have discussed the process of obtaining a Learner and Provisional P1 licences. Information on the process is available on the RMS website.

Purchasing a Vehicle

This presentation advises students on the process of purchasing their first car, including: finance, registration, private sales. Adapted from a presentation developed and delivered by Mr Joe Paglia (Sales Manager Macarthur Ford Campbelltown), who can be contacted on 02 4645 8888.

Macarthur Ford Campbelltown is also supporting U-Turn The Wheel Students by offering the following program:

  • A free* mechanical safety inspection on a vehicle being privately purchased by a U-Turn The Wheel student
  • A free* PPSR (Personal Property Securities Register) check on a vehicle being privately purchased by a U-Turn The Wheel student.

*Please ensure you provide proof of attendance at a U-Turn The Wheel session by providing details of your school enrolment and the date that U-Turn The Wheel presented at your school.

Keeping your Ls and Ps

NSW Police Force Officers from Campbelltown Highway Patrol presented information on road safety issues, licence conditions for L and P drivers and traffic offences with the fines and demerit points that apply.

NRMA

Staff from the NRMA Branch at Macarthur Square delivered a presentation on insurance for motor vehicles. Covering the types of insurance and the difference between them, students gain an insight into protecting themselves against significant financial loss.

In addition, NRMA Motoring and Services (depending on eligibility), offer the Free2Go program, which offers a period of free roadside assistance to young drivers.

Celebrate Safely

Celebrate Safely is presented by the NSW Police Force - School Liaison Police. The presentation provided information on the effect of drugs and alcohol on the body.

Low Risk Driving

Our Road Safety Officer, David Behrens, presents the issues surrounding injury and fatality crashes. Information on speed limits, low risk driving, stopping distances and human tolerance to physical force is provided.
