Simple swaps to reduce waste in the home

Our Governments have set a range of targets for waste reduction at both the Federal and State levels by developing a range of strategies and policies. Our governments are also working with industry to change packaging, build critical recycling infrastructure and ensure our waste can be managed as a resource within Australia as export bans on waste items commence.

What you can do

It may seem a bit daunting, and too big a problem to make a difference as an individual. Often, people also associate waste reduction and creating less waste with giving up things, or going without. But it doesn't need to be this way.

As individuals we can all make a difference - taking small, manageable steps towards less waste all adds up. Make a change once a week, once a month, whatever works for you! If we have thousands of individuals making small changes over time and working towards a low waste lifestyle, it is much more effective than having a few people living the low waste lifestyle perfectly.

Not sure where to start?

Our friends at the Macarthur Centre for Sustainable Living had a chat with Elisa from the Simple Intentions podcast about how to take those first steps.

Take a listen to this podcast: where MCSL staff dive into topics such as reducing waste in the home, dealing with plastic waste and tips on energy reduction. The session is full of simple ideas to get you started, make some simple swaps and start or advance your waste reduction journey.
