Meet Carby,

Carby is a gentle little sweetheart who has made huge progress since first arriving at the shelter. While she can still get a bit startled by loud noises, she bounces back quickly and continues to grow in confidence every day. With her happy, friendly nature, she’s perfectly suited to first-time owners and would love a calm and quiet home where she can keep blossoming.

Curious, playful, and still very much a puppy at heart, Carby adores engaging with people and enjoys the company of other dogs too. Training is something she takes on with determination – she loves to try her best, especially when treats are involved! Affectionate and eager to be part of your world, Carby is ready to bring her bright and loving spirit into her forever home.

Ideal Home: Carby is fine to live in either a townhouse, standalone home, or farm/acerage with a medium-large yard and high, secure fencing.

Family: Carby is open to meet kids from 8 years and up. Reason for this is because Carby is a little sensitive to loud noises - so older children will be more mindful of her needs. However, we are always open to her meeting younger children - just as long as they are dog savvy and understanding.

Carby is fine to live with people who work full-time hours as she shows no signs of separation anxiety. She is able to spend time in the yard on her own, but would also love to be inside with her new family too.

Furry Friends: Carby is open to meet other dogs. She is young, eager to interact and make friends - she loves playing with her siblings but would be best suited with another dog who gives her space and is happy to co-exist without the need for playing all the time.

As we cannot test in this environment, we are unsure how Carby would go living with/meeting cats and pocket pets. This would be up to the discretion of her new owners.

Training & Development: Carby would benefit from post-adoption training such as training at home to cover basic commands/obedience. Group classes should also be considered so that she can continue to learn manners when interacting and playing with other dogs. Carby should be enrolled into puppy training classes as soon as she is adopted. These classes & training will set her up for life and will allow her to learn social skills & etiquette, as well as define her manners. These classes & training will also teach her how to appropriately interact with other dogs as well as other animals & people. These training classes will also assist her new owner, as they can both learn new skills together.

With additional training and time to settle into a new routine, Carby could be the type of dog that you can take to a dog friendly café or social setting.

Carby is still learning her name, but she knows commands such as sit. She is eager to learn more and is trying her best to learn more, too.

She is food motivated and is gentle when taking treats from you - so having treats on you during training to mark good behaviour would be an excellent idea. She is very responsive to treats.

We always recommend post-adoption training whether it be at home or with a professional. Training doesn’t have to be a chore – it can be a fun experience for you both, it doesn’t have to take long & is a great way for you to bond with your new pal.

Play: Carby, being young, has medium to high-range energy needs & would benefit from exercise, play, or walks from 20-30mins a day to keep her healthy and happy. Carby sometimes like to play with toys - she prefers soft toys over anything else - but what she really likes to do is going for walks, social time with other dogs, and personal play with her handlers.

Carby walks well on lead with some pulling. She is best to be walked on a harness or martingale.

Staff Comments: Carby is very affectionate and eager to learn. She is sweet but startles with loud noises. Carby is still young and had a rough start to life. When she and her litter mates arrived at our facility, they were all heartbreakingly underweight and under socialised. Carby has grown into such a wonderful girl and we are so excited for her to find her new home.

The 3-3-3 Rule of Adopting a Dog

Post Adoption Life: With all animals it’s important to understand that going into a new environment with new people may not be as seamless as we want it to be. It’s important to know that these animals have unknown histories - most are left in the shelter by their owners. The information we have is from observing the animal’s behaviours & reactions to certain stimuli whilst in our care. Adopted animals can take up to 3 months to properly decompress from post-shelter life & a lot of behaviours & quirks may surface during this time. All that we ask is that their new owners have an open mind & are patient.
