Meet Sunny,
Ready to brighten your days and keep you on your toes! Sunny is exactly what his name suggests — a bright, bubbly boy full of life and good vibes. He's the kind of dog who brings a smile to your face with his goofy antics, wagging tail, and zest for adventure. This confident guy is curious about the world and loves to explore it with enthusiasm! He’s excitable, playful, and always up for some fun, whether it’s a run around the backyard, a hike through the bush, or a game of fetch in the park.
Sunny gets along with everyone — he’s social, friendly, and full of charm. He might play it cool sometimes (aloof is his middle name on occasion), but don’t be fooled - he’s affectionate, cheeky, and just a little bit bouncy when he’s happy.
He would suit experienced dog owners, but he’s also wonderfully adaptable and would fit into just about any household that can keep up with his energy and give him the love and structure he thrives on.
Ideal Home: Sunny is suitable to live in a standalone home or on a farm/acerage, with a medium to large yard & high, secure fencing.
Family: Sunny is open to meet kids from 8 years & up - reason for his is due to his playful ways. He may accidently knock smaller children over.
Sunny is also fine to spend time in the yard on his own, but would love the opportunity to be inside with his new family. Sunny is also fine to live with people who work part-time or full-time.
Furry Friends: Sunny is dog selective - and what we mean by that is that other dogs will be selective of him. Sunny is a goof ball whose very excited to meet dogs & be their friend, but his super playful ways may turn other dogs off. He's very boisterous in the beginning but can eventually settle and be able to play appropriately, but this will depend on the other dogs attitude towards him. We encourage Sunny to get a little additional training & socialisation before being able to venture out & meet other dogs.
As we cannot test in this environment, we are unsure how Sunny would go living with or meeting cats/pocket pets. This would be up to the discretion of his new owners. But we feel that his energy may be too much for small animals.
Training & Development: Sunny would benefit from post-adoption training such as training at home to cover basic commands/obedience. Group classes would be good too, so that he can learn some manners when interacting with other dogs. And possibly a pro trainer to come in a sus out a plan for his jumping behaviour - although it's not too bad, as he is responding to basic training in our care, so he may not need it but it may be something to look into... maybe...
Sunny knowns his name, but he knows commands such as: sit. He is food motivated, but not overly, and is known to be gentle when taking treats from you - so having treats on you during training to mark good behaviour would be an excellent idea.
We always recommend post-adoption training whether it be at home or with a professional. Training doesn’t have to be a chore – it can be a fun experience for you both, it doesn’t have to take long & is a great way for you to bond with your new pal.
Play: Sunny has mid to high-range energy needs & would benefit from exercise or walks from 30-60mins a day to keep him healthy & happy. Sunny shows interest in playing with toys - he loves soft toys. He also loves personal play & interaction with his handlers.
Sunny walks well on lead, but can pull when there something interesting going on. He is best to be walked on a martingale.
Staff Comments: Sunny is a lovely dog who sometimes gets a little distracted - one minute to have is whole attention, the next he's staring off into space. He is dog friendly but we are still working on his manners. He's a fun dog who just needs someone who will embrace his enthusiasm for life. He loves people, loves to be near you & loves to make the most out of any situation!

Post Adoption Life: With all animals it’s important to understand that going into a new environment with new people may not be as seamless as we want it to be. It’s important to know that these animals have unknown histories - most are left in the shelter by their owners. The information we have is from observing the animal’s behaviours & reactions to certain stimuli whilst in our care. Adopted animals can take up to 3 months to properly decompress from post-shelter life & a lot of behaviours & quirks may surface during this time. All that we ask is that their new owners have an open mind & are patient.
