Meet Thor,

Thor is a striking working-breed mix with a big personality and an even bigger heart. Best suited to experienced owners, or those familiar with working breeds, Thor is adaptable and could fit into many household environments, though he’ll truly thrive in a calm and quiet home with room for activities. He’d be a wonderful match for active people or families who enjoy being out and about, as walks and shared adventures are some of his favourite things.

Independent, happy, outgoing, and smart, Thor has all the classic traits of his breed mix; he can be a little stubborn and alert, but what makes him special is his ability to form strong bonds with his handlers. Thor loves engaging and spending time with you, but he’s also perfectly content in his own space – the best of both worlds. This bright, confident boy is ready to find his place with people who will appreciate everything that makes him unique.

Ideal Home: Thor is best suited to live in a standalone home or on a farm/acerage, with a large yard and high, secure fencing.

Family: Thor is open to meet kids from 6 years and up. Reason for this is because during play time Thor may accidently knock smaller kids over.

Thor is fine to live with people who work full-time or part-time hours as he shows no signs of separation anxiety. He is independent and able to spend time in the yard on his own, but on occasion would also like to be inside with his new family too

Furry Friends: During his dog assessment, Thor was able to be walked around/by other dogs, however he becomes avoidant and uncomfortable when other dogs are too close to him. He often looks to his handler for reassurance when this happens. Because of this, Thor is best to be the only dog in the home - however socialisation training may see him progress to being open to meet other dogs.

Thor is not suitable to live with cats.

Training & Development: Thor would benefit from post-adoption training such as training at home to cover basic commands/obedience. Thor may jump on you - he usually does this for attention - it's his way of saying 'hello, I'm here!'.

Thor knows his name and he also knows commands such as sit, shake and down. He is a smart dog, who is very capable of learning more as these commands were learned in the short amount of time that he has been with us.

He is food motivated too - so having treats on you during training to mark good behaviour would be an excellent idea as he is very responsive to them. He is gentle when taking treats from you. He adores devon!

We always recommend post-adoption training whether it be at home or with a professional. Training doesn’t have to be a chore – it can be a fun experience for you both, it doesn’t have to take long & is a great way for you to bond with your new pal.

Play: Thor has high-range energy needs, which is true to his working breed mix, and he would benefit from exercise, play, or walks from 30-60mins a day to keep him healthy and content. Training sessions would also be good to keep his active brain engaged. Thor likes to play with toys, but he doesn't rely on them - he prefers walks, expeditions, training sessions and just being around the people he loves.

Thor walks well on lead, but he does pull from excitement. He does settle down and once he is settled and the excitement is behind him he walks well. He is best to be walked on either a martingale or harness.

Staff Comments: Smart, cheeky, and full of character, Thor is ready for his next adventure! He loves walks, exploring, and hanging out with his people, but he’s also happy doing his own thing. A little stubborn (in the most charming way!), super smart, and always up for engaging with you, Thor is looking for experienced owners who will appreciate his bold, fun-loving nature.

The 3-3-3 Rule of Adopting a Dog

Post Adoption Life: With all animals it’s important to understand that going into a new environment with new people may not be as seamless as we want it to be. It’s important to know that these animals have unknown histories - most are left in the shelter by their owners. The information we have is from observing the animal’s behaviours & reactions to certain stimuli whilst in our care. Adopted animals can take up to 3 months to properly decompress from post-shelter life & a lot of behaviours & quirks may surface during this time. All that we ask is that their new owners have an open mind & are patient.
