Become a Bushcare volunteer

Do you have a passion for nature? Would you like to know more about local waterways, birds, insects, plants and wildlife, and pick up some new skills while you're at it? If the answer is yes, then why not join one of our Bushcare volunteer groups?

WHAT IS BUSHCARE?

Bushcare is the industry term for bush regeneration works undertaken by volunteers on Council managed bushland sites and reserves. Bushcare/bush regeneration aims to support the health and resilience of existing old-growth ecological plant communities, restoring habitat and biodiversity.

Volunteers typically engage in tasks such as:

  • weed management/control to protect native plant species
  • plant identification & other citizen science initiatives
  • erosion control & water quality monitoring
  • litter removal (site dependent)
  • wildlife monitoring/spotting
  • revegetation in highly degraded areas

No experience is necessary - we will provide you with all the onsite, practical training you need.

Bush Explorers

In partnership with our Bushcare volunteer program, Bush Explorers aims to reveal the mysteries of nature through regular events lead by our local experts.

Throughout the year we will lift the lid on the wonders of the natural world, be it through bug-hunts or bird-walks, seasonal saunters or spotlight nights, bushcare workshops or bush tucker walks - there will be something for everyone.

As a Bush Explorer you will get to discover the local wildlife, learn about the natural environment and see the important bushcare work that helps preserve it. Additionally you will meet like-minded people whilst getting outside and active in nature - a great way to help your own well-being.

Another reason why it is so vital to care about the bush.

Check out our upcoming Bush Explorer events.
