Council has partnered with popular car share operator GoGet to deliver a 12-month trial of the service in Campbelltown.

Ten car share spaces have been placed at five locations across Campbelltown.

Car sharing offers people the opportunity to access vehicles on demand for short periods of time. Once registered to GoGet, drivers can pay a fee to hire a vehicle for an hour, a day, or longer – with fuel, insurance, registration and maintenance all covered.

“Car sharing has been popular for residents in other areas of Sydney for many years and has successfully reduced people’s reliance on their own vehicles to get around,” Mayor George Greiss said.

“More than 400 people across Campbelltown are already GoGet members who use the service regularly so this trial will enable us to assess the viability of increasing car sharing capabilities across the city in the future,” Cr Greiss said.

Head of Space at GoGet Christopher Vanneste said: “Western Sydney is experiencing rapid growth and densification and carshare will be one of the tools Council can use to ensure Campbelltown’s growth doesn’t result in gridlock.”

“Carshare will also allow developments to build fewer parking spaces but still give owners and tenants, who don’t need a car every day, access to vehicles when needed on demand, increasing housing choice, affordability and environmental benefits.”

Car share locations include:

  • Milgate Lane, Campbelltown
  • Dumaresq Street, Campbelltown
  • Broughton Street, Campbelltown
  • Allman Street, Campbelltown
  • Centennial Drive, Campbelltown
