Meet Lucy,
Lucy is a bright, bubbly, and endlessly loveable little pup who’s ready to find her perfect forever family. Lucy is everything you’d hope for – she’s friendly, happy, playful, and curious about the big world around her. She’s also very smart and has been picking up new things quickly during her time with us, showing just how clever she truly is. Whether she’s being handled, picked up, or carried, Lucy is easy-going and trusting, but she also loves the freedom to explore and adventure at her own pace.
Lucy is deaf, which makes her extra special and means she’ll need experienced owners who can give her the support and guidance she deserves. She may require specialised training, and we encourage her future family to be open to the idea of enlisting a professional trainer to help her learn the skills she needs to thrive - or at least be open to researching.
This sweet girl has already been enjoying social walks with other dogs, showing that she’s curious and open to making new friends. However, because she can’t always communicate or signal her boundaries like other dogs might, her new family will need to be her biggest supporter and advocate when it comes to interactions. With patience, love, and commitment, Lucy is sure to reward her humans with endless affection and the kind of bond that only comes from helping a pup like her shine.
Dog-friendly? Yes! Lucy is open to meeting other dogs - ongoing socialisation training will be a great addition to her social skills, too.
Cat-friendly? Unknown - we can't really test in this environment, so it’s up to her new family to introduce her carefully.
Kid-friendly? Absolutely! She’s open to meeting children of all ages just as long as they are aware of her needs (deaf).
Considerations:
Lucy would love a yard, with high secure fencing, so that she can play in it safely. She dreams of a home with toys - lots of toys! As well as daily exercise/walks to keep her body physically fit & her mind mentally fit. Treat/food puzzles are a great tool and great way to keep active puppy minds engaged!
Lucy is starting to explore her surrounds & is growing in confidence each & every day. However, it would be a wise move to invest in a crate & start crate training. This type of training is not only a highly valuable skill to have but is a great skill for any dog to learn and know.
Lucy should be enrolled into puppy training classes as soon as she is adopted. These classes & training will set her up for life and will allow her to learn social skills & etiquette, as well as define her manners. These classes & training will also teach her how to appropriately interact with other dogs as well as other animals & people. These training classes will also assist her new owner, as they can both learn new skills together.
If you've got other animals at home, that's okay, just make sure that they have a gradual & supervised introduction - preferably over a few days - to ensure that they have the best chance of becoming friends for life.

The 3-3-3 Rule of Adopting a Dog
Post Adoption Life: With all animals it's important to understand that going into a new environment with new people may not be as seamless as we want it to be. It's important to know that these animals have unknown histories - most are left in the shelter by their owners. The information we have is from observing the animals' behaviours and reactions to certain stimuli whilst in our care. Adopted animals can take up to 3 months to properly decompress from post-shelter life and a lot of behaviours and quirks may surface during this time. All that we ask is that their new owners have an open mind and are patient.
