Meet Mafia,

Mafia is a cool, confident guy who’s ready to strut into his next adventure! He’s best suited to experienced owners who appreciate a dog with a bit of personality and smarts to match.

Adaptable and easy-going, Mafia can settle into just about any household environment. He enjoys his walks and being out and about, making him a great match for active people or families - though he’s not overly demanding when it comes to exercise. He’s just as happy tagging along on your plans as he is relaxing by your side.

Independent yet affectionate, Mafia is friendly, engaging, and always up for a pat or a chat. He’s a clever boy who can be a touch stubborn at times, but that’s part of his charm! He’s currently learning to be social with other dogs and has made great progress.

If you’re looking for a smart, happy dog who brings a bit of character and fun to every day, Mafia might be the one for you!

Ideal Home: Mafia is suitable to live in a standalone home or on a farm/acerage, with a medium to large yard, and high secure fencing.

Family: Mafia is open to meet kids from 5-8 years of age and up - reason for this is simply due to his size. Mafia is quite a large dog and may accidently knock smaller kids over.

He is fine to live with people who work full-time hours as he shows no signs of separation anxiety. He is independent and is able to spend time in the yard on his own, but on occasion would also like to be inside with his new family, too.

Furry Friends: Mafia is dog selective and must meet all dogs living in the home. During his dog assessment he was a little stressed at first and was unsure when meeting the other dog. His behaviour was up and down - sometimes showing interest, then wanting to do his own thing. He's not a playful dog, so if going home with another dog the other dog should be mild-mannered and calm and not needing to play. Mafia can co-exist with another dog but doesn't need to rely on them for companionship.

As we cannot test in this environment, we are unsure if Mafia would be suitable to live with cats and/or pocket pets. This would be up to the discretion of his new owners.

Training & Development: Mafia would benefit from post-adoption training such as training at home to cover basic commands/obedience. He is well mannered but may jump on you for attention - although this is rare.

Mafia knows his name, in addition he also knows commands such as sit and down/drop and he is also toilet trained.

He is food motivated (sometimes), so having treats on you during training to mark good behaviour would still be an excellent idea. Archie is also gentle when taking treats from you.

We always recommend post-adoption training whether it be at home or with a professional. Training doesn’t have to be a chore – it can be a fun experience for you both, it doesn’t have to take long & is a great way for you to bond with your new pal.

Play: Mafia has mid-range energy needs & would benefit from exercise or walks from 20-30mins a day to keep him happy and healthy. Mafia doesn't really play with toys (from what we have seen), he prefers to go for walks, personal play with his handlers and just being near you - or he is happy to chill on his own in his kennel.

Mafia walks well on lead with minimal pulling. He is able to be walked on any walking apparatus.

Staff Comments: Mafia is a smart, confident and happy boy who’s ready to find his people! He’s an easy-going dog who loves his walks but isn’t demanding. Mafia is friendly, affectionate and a little bit cheeky — he’s social with people, learning to be social with dogs, and always up for whatever you’re doing. With his lovable mix of independence and charm, Mafia is sure to steal your heart in no time!

The 3-3-3 Rule of Adopting a Dog

Post Adoption Life: With all animals it’s important to understand that going into a new environment with new people may not be as seamless as we want it to be. It’s important to know that these animals have unknown histories - most are left in the shelter by their owners. The information we have is from observing the animal’s behaviours & reactions to certain stimuli whilst in our care. Adopted animals can take up to 3 months to properly decompress from post-shelter life & a lot of behaviours & quirks may surface during this time. All that we ask is that their new owners have an open mind & are patient.
