ASPIRE - Circular Economy

Aspire Circular Economy

The circular economy can help businesses save costs, streamline processes, minimise demand on resources, lower carbon emissions, and reduce landfill and pollution. ASPIRE is a digital tool that empowers businesses to begin their journey towards circularity.

As a business you can now trade, exchange or sell your unwanted waste with the ASPIRE program - helping you to reduce your waste disposal costs and also minimising the amount of waste sent to landfill.

What is the Circular Economy ?

The earth's resources are not limitless. We need to move away from the linear 'take - make - waste' system, to ensure that we have enough food, energy, resources and materials to continue to serve the needs of our ever growing populations, while limiting the impact on the environment and biodiversity.

Around the world the explosion of global trade, consumption and increased urbanisation has led to the exploitation and destruction of nature at a rate never seen before. The current state of our planet is a direct result of the way we produce and consume things. This linear, extractive and polluting model poses major risks to our economic activities and is a threat to our own well-being.

The circular economy gives us the tools to tackle climate change and biodiversity loss, while also addressing important social needs. A circular economy creates a thriving economy that benefits everyone within the limits of our planet. It goes beyond simply sustaining what we have, and focuses on driving growth which regenerates and actually improves our natural world.

What is ASPIRE?

ASPIRE is an online material resource match-matchmaking platform which allows businesses to find alternative solutions for waste currently going to landfill. As a business, it works by enabling you to list unwanted waste streams and connects you with potential remanufacturers, purchasers or recyclers of your waste resource. It helps businesses take the first step on the circular economy journey.

The ASPIRE platform was originally developed by CSIRO and Data 61 as a pilot, in response to manufacturing companies talking to their local councils about waste disposal costs - particularly those associated with increasing landfill levies.
