Event Postponed - 2020 Campbelltown Challenge Walk

In light of growing concerns over COVID-19 the difficult decision has been made to postpone the Challenge Walk. Participants will be given a full refund of their entry fee. Further details to come.

Participants can chose either the 6km or 11km course in the beautiful and scenic Australian Botanic Garden, Mount Annan.


Entering the event

Online registrations - Now open

  • Online entries ($12 per person) will close at 11.59pm on Wednesday 11 March 2020.
  • All participants must pick up their bib number from race venue visitors car park area on Saturday 14 March between 11.00am and 1.00pm or on Race Day before 7.45am. You must show your E-ticket and a valid identity card to collect your race bib. BIBS ARE NO LONGER MAILED OUT.

Registering as a TEAM can be done in 3 ways:

  1. Enter yourself and create your team name then notify other members. As other team members register online, they can search the team name from the drop down menu and proceed with registration as normal; or
  2. Enter yourself and create your team name and proceed with registering all team members before making final payment; or
  3. Email events@campbelltown.nsw.gov.au and we will create a team profile for you.  You'll then be able to proceed with registering all your team members details before making final payment.

In-person registrations

  • Before registering please review the entry terms and conditions.
  • In-person entries ($12 per person) will close at 4:30pm Friday 28 February 2020.
  • All participants must pick up their bib number from race venue visitors car park area on Saturday 14 March between 11.00am and 1.00pm or on Race Day before 7.45am. You must show your E-ticket and a valid identity card to collect your race bib. BIBS ARE NO LONGER MAILED OUT.
  • Participants can choose to register and pay in-person:
    Eagle Vale Central
    Corner Emerald Dr & Feldspar Rd, Eagle Vale
    Monday to Friday from 6.00am - 9.00pm
    Saturday from 8.00am - 6.00pm
    Sunday from 7.30am - 5.00pm

    Campbelltown Civic Centre
    Customer Service located on ground floor (Cnr Broughton and Queen Street)
    Monday to Friday from 8.30am - 4.30pm.

Registering as a TEAM can be done in 2 ways:

  1. A team member can submit their team members completed and signed entry forms together for payment; or
  2. Each team member can individually enter in-person and ensure the correct team name is recorded on entry form before payment.

Late entry (on the day)

  • Participants must go to the late registration area at the race venue concourse area
  • Late entry fee on the day is $24 per person 
  • Race bib can be collected at late registration area

Entry fees

  • $12 entry fee per person, if you are registering before Midnight Wednesday 11 March 2020; or
  • $24 per person for 'late entry' fee, if you are registering on Sunday 15 March 2020.

Event rules and conditions

  1. RUNNER - BUSTING MARSHALS: Participants must walk (ie. contact with the road surface must be maintained at all times). Course marshals will report any participant who runs or cheats in any other way, and the offender will be disqualified.
  2. A separate signed entry or online entry is required for each entrant.
  3. Entrants with strollers must start from the designated STROLLER START AREA (well behind the start line) to ensure a safe, injury-free start for all.
  4. NO RUNNING IS ALLOWED. Any form of cheating will result in disqualification.
  5. 11km entrants who only complete 6km will be classified as “Did Not Finish”.
  6. Entry fees are not refundable.
  7. No team entries will be accepted on event day.
  8. All team members must compete over the same distance, and there must be at least three people per team.
  9. All Line Honours placegetters will be ineligible for age category awards.
  10. “Dead Heat” rule —  the winner of a dead heat will be the entrant with the lower race number (ie. the entrant whose entry form was processed first).
  11. Pets are not allowed in the Botanic Garden.
  12. Chest bib numbers will be utilised for this event.
  13. All decisions by the Race Director are final.
  14. If an entrant fails to bring a chest bib number, a replacement will be issued with an additional $22 fee.
  15. All entrants who complete their event will be eligible for a finisher’s certificate.
  16. Prevent littering by using the waste bins provided.

Team Competition rules

  1. All entrants participating in teams must register early - i.e. no team entries accepted on event day all team members must compete over the same distance.
  2. At least three people per team.
  3. A and B team categories are for students only. School staff members and parents/guardians are Category D.
  4. Only school students from the same school are eligible to be a member of a school team.
  5. Each participant can only be a member of one team.    
  6. "Top Team” awards will recognise those teams whose top three members record the lowest aggregate time for their team category over their selected distance.
  7. In top team categories, first, second and third placed teams over each distance will receive a plaque.    
  8. “Largest Team” awards will recognise the teams with the most entrants for each distance.
  9. It is the team coordinator's responsibility to check all team members registrations are in the correct team category prior to competition. No team changes are permitted on race day.


Event categories and awards

Line honours

Line honours and category winners will receive trophies and awards from the Mayor of Campbelltown at a special presentation ceremony to be held at 10.00am in the lakeside area.

Winners’ trophies will be presented to the male and female participants who are the first across the line for each distance. Second and third placegetters will also receive line honours awards.

NOTE: Outright winners and placegetters are not eligible for an age category award.

Awards will be presented to the male and female participants who are the first placegetters over either distance in their respective age categories:

Barrel draw prizes

All race entrants will automatically be entered into the barrel draw.

You do not have to be present to win, if you are not present we will contact you within two weeks after the event to collect your prize.

Event details

6km or 11km walk

Date : Sunday 15 March 2020

Start Time : 8.00am gun start

Cut Off Time : 10.00am (If a participant does not complete the event by the 10.00am finishing time, they will be listed as DID NOT FINISH and will not have a time recorded).

Course Description : The course(491KB, PDF) is a combination of flat and hilly paths which consists of one lap (6km) or two laps (11km) around the grounds of The Australian Botanic Garden, Mount Annan located on Narellan Road, Mount Annan. 

Entries on the day

Entries on the day will be registered from 6.30am near the start line. Race bibs will not be issued after 7.45am.

Strollers

Strollers/Pram walkers are welcome to participate over either distance.

Baggage minding

Free secure baggage minding will be provided next to the registration area.

Water stations

On course and finish line water stations are available.

Refreshments

Food and drinks will be available to purchase at the venue.

Trophy presentation and barrel draw

The presentation ceremony will be held in the registration area from 9.45am.

Race bibs

Please read the following information carefully.

  • Timing chips are attached to the race bibs which are used for this event.
  • The race bib must be securely tied to the front of your race t-shirt/singlet attire.
  • Failure to bring your race bib on the day will result in a $24 fee for replacement.
  • All participants must collect their Race Bib on Saturday 14 March at the Australian Botanic Garden, Mt Annan between 11.00am to 1.00pm; or on Race Day, Sunday 15 March (before 7.45am).
    • You must have your e-ticket or identification to collect your Race Bib.
    • If you are collecting a Race Bib on behalf of someone you must have their e-ticket to collect their race bib

Child minding

Child minding is available on the day for children aged 4 to 12 years. Please ensure this option is selected on your entry form.

Results

All entrants who complete their event will be eligible for a finisher’s certificate (available online only). Race results and finisher’s certificates can be downloaded from the results page after the event.

What to do on the day


Walkers

  • The Australian Botanic Gardens, Mt Annan, via Narellan Rd – No entry will be permitted before 6.30am.
  • Once entered into the Garden, follow the signs to race bib pickup, baggage, child minding and the  start line. If you require any assistance go to the help desk.
  • If it is raining on the day – the Challenge Walk will still GO AHEAD
  • Free baggage storage will be available near the late registration area (Tags will be available to label your bags).
  • If you are walking, no running will be allowed. Any form of cheating will result in disqualification
  • Entrants with strollers must start from the designated strollers start area (well behind the start line) to ensure a safe, injury-free start for everyone
  • Pets are not allowed in the Botanic Gardens
  • Prevent littering by using the waste bins provided.
Runner - Busting Marshals
  • Participants must walk (ie. contact with the road surface must be maintained at all times). Course marshals will report any participant who runs or cheats in any other way, and the offender will be disqualified
  • Stay on the defined course as any departure may lead to disqualification
  • Contestants must follow any instruction from the Course Marshalls
  • All 11km participants must have started their 2nd lap by 9.00am. The Race Director will close the road at the 6km mark at 9.00am and the course marshals will direct participants to the finish line. 11km entrants that do not complete the 2nd lap will be transferred into the 6km category
  • 11km entrants who only complete 6km will be classified as “Did Not Finish”
  • Please remember to keep to your right whilst walking to allow other walkers to overtake
Medifast first aiders
  • Will be on course and if you need any assistance please do not hesitate to ask for help
Water stations
  • Are located at the start and finish line and there are two stations located around the course track.
  • Tissues, Hand Sanitizer and Sunscreen will be available at each water station.
Entertainment
  • C91.3FM and School of Rock Macarthur will be on course – say Hi, wave, do a little dance shuffle and keeping walking.
Health and Wellbeing
  • People who have been in close contact of a confirmed case of COVID-19, or who returned from or transited through a listed higher risk country (Australian Government, Department of Health Website), must not attend public gatherings until 14 days after leaving the country or having contact with a confirmed case even if they are completely symptom free.
  • Those undergoing COVID-19 testing also must not attend public gatherings until they have received their results.


Race bibs

Red bib chest number means you are running the 6km (one lap) run

Blue bib chest number means you are running the 11km (two laps) run

  • You cannot change your mind from a 6km to 11km or 11km to 6km halfway through your walk otherwise your time will not be recorded. If you wish to change the distance you need to see the staff at the Late Registration tent before the race is to commence
  • Timing chips are attached to the race bibs which are used for this event

Getting to and from the venue

By car
  • The venue is located in Campbelltown 2km west of Narellan Rd off-ramp from the M5/Hume Highway.
  • Please allow extra time for traffic.
  • Aim to arrive at the venue around 6.45am, so that you are at the start line with your race bib attached by 7.50am. 
By train

By bus
  • A free bus service is kindly provided by Busabout and will link directly from Campbelltown Railway Station to The Australian Botanic Gardens, Mt Annan.
  • The bus departs from Campbelltown Railway Stations, B Rank at 7.00am
  • It will then depart from the Botanic Gardens at approximately 11.30am to return to the Campbelltown Railway Station.


Parking

  • All vehicles will be directed to parking areas inside the Botanic Gardens. The main car park that will be used is the ‘over flow’ car park.
  • No traffic will be allowed to enter or exit the Garden’s grounds until all competitors have completed the course from 8.00am to 10.00am.
  • A ‘drop off’ zone will be provided within the entry gates near the Registration Area.
  • To ensure smooth traffic flow into the event site, parking will not be permitted on Mount Drive.


After the walk - Refreshments

  • The Rotary Club of Campbelltown will provide a BBQ service, selling food and drinks to raise funds for their community and youth projects
  • Sizzlers will provide their famous Cheesy Toast for a gold coin donation
  • Stormin Normin or The Cream Machine will also be there to have coffee or tea freshly made on the day
  • The Athletes Foot will also be waiting for you at the finish line with fresh fruit and water
  • Russ Flannery (known as The guy with the guitar) will be performing on stage (near the Finish line from 7.30am to 10.00am
  • Barrell draw and presentation will commence at 9.50am
  • All participants will automatically be in the barrell draw– you must be present to receive the prize
  • Presentation will commence at 10.00am
    • 6km line honours winners and placegetters

  • ROOTSYOGA will be on site from 7.00am to 11.00am providing free stretching and breathing exercises before and after the walk.
